United Airlines plans flight to Haiti on Wednesday
CHICAGO — United Airlines says it will send a plane full of bottled water and other relief supplies to Haiti on Wednesday.
The 757 aircraft will leave Chicago with 15,000 pounds of water donated by Walgreens, as well as donated tents and communications equipment. Relief workers will be on board as well. United spokeswoman Robin Urbanski says the plane will refuel in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and return to Chicago Wednesday night.
She says United plans to operate up to 30 flights between Haiti and the U.S., with the next flight tentatively planned for Thursday.
United doesn’t usually fly to Haiti, and it will need to bring its own ramp workers for thea trip.
