Exxon to use advanced methods to extend the life of the historic Hawkins Field by 25 years

Exxon to inject new life in old Texas field

HOUSTON — Exxon Mobil says it will use new technology to wring the equivalent of 40 million barrels of crude out of a Texas oil field that was first discovered in 1940.

Hawkins Field was a major energy source for the country during World War II and has since produced more than 800 million barrels of crude. It was one of the largest discoveries in the state and while it still has active wells, production has slowed.

Hawkins is located in Northeast Texas about 100 miles east of Dallas.

Exxon Mobil Production Co. says it plans to use injections of nitrogen and other gases to force oil to the surface and extend the life of the field by 25 years.
