W.Va. PSC holds hearings on Verizon wire line sale

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Hearings are under way in Charleston on Frontier Communications Corp.’s plan to buy Verizon Communications Inc.’s wire line business.

The hearings before the Public Service Commission began Tuesday and are expected to continue through Friday.

The proposed sale would affect millions of customers in West Virginia and 13 other states.

West Virginia Citizen Action Group executive director Gary Zuckett told the PSC that Verizon’s wire lines in the state are in disrepair. He questioned whether Frontier has the resources to make improvements.

Jan Vineyard with the West Virginia Business and Industry Council says the council believes Frontier is the best candidate to acquire Verizon’s wire line business in West Virginia. She urged the commission to approve the deal.
