No flights likely from Cleveland airport Sunday

CLEVELAND — A power outage at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport will likely cancel all remaining flights for the day.

Airport spokeswoman Jackie Mayo says even if power is returned as hoped for Sunday evening it would take a while for airport operations after that to resume.

FirstEnergy Corp. says road salt that blew onto power lines Sunday apparently caused a utility pole fire by conducting electricity from high voltage lines to the pole.

Continental, United, American, Southwest and US Air are among the airlines that canceled flights after the early morning outage.

Mayo says critical areas such as the airfields and the airport tower have power and a backup generator was providing limited lighting in the terminal.
