2009 Auto Sales: Audi’s US sales fall 6 percent

HERNDON, Va. — Audi said Tuesday its 2009 sales in the U.S. fell 6 percent, while December sales rose 17 percent.

BY THE NUMBERS: Sales rose to 9,030 vehicles in December from 7,712 in the same month a year earlier. For all of 2009, sales fell to 82,716 vehicles from 87,760 in 2008.

TOP SELLER: The A4, with 3,555 sold in December.

HOT MODELS: Audi said its Q7 and A3 models that use Audi’s TDI clean diesel technology sold better than expected. In 2009, clean diesel units made up 43 percent of Q7 sales and 53 percent of A3 sales.
