LONDON - The man accused of trying to blow up a US jet at Christmas told his dad weeks earlier: “You’ll never hear from me again.”

Umar Abdulmutallab, 23, rang to say he was in Yemen.

According to The Sun, the Nigerian also said people with him were about to destroy his mobile phone SIM card.

The call prompted his dad Alhaji Mutallab to fear his son was about to take part in a suicide bombing.

Alhaji alerted the American embassy in his home country Nigeria, a US official said yesterday.

Accused “underwear bomber” Abdulmutallab was put on a watch list but not on the no-fly list that would have stopped him boarding Northwest Airlines Flight 253 to Detroit.

A passenger thwarted the former London student, but US President Barack Obama has blamed “systematic failures” for the security lapse. (ANI)
