Court orders Brazilian family to relinquish boy

RIO DE JANEIRO — A federal court has given a Brazilian family until Thursday morning to turn over custody of a 9-year-old boy to his U.S. father.

The court in Rio de Janeiro released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying the Brazilian family has until 9 a.m. Thursday to deliver Sean to his father, New Jersey resident Sean Goldman.

The court’s order follows a ruling Tuesday by Brazil’s chief justice, who upheld a previous court decision ordering that Sean be returned to Goldman.
