SEOUL - The South Korean navy Thursday began manoeuvres on submarine defence off its western coast amid tensions with North Korea over the sinking of a South Korean warship.

SEOUL - North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has put the Stalinist state's army on combat alert amid rising tensions after the March sinking of a South Korean warship was blamed on Pyongyang, a news report said Tuesday.
SEOUL - South Korean "will not tolerate any provocative act" and will take self-defence measures in case of further military provocation by North Korea, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said Monday.
