Terrorism, nuclear proliferation, piracy and arms smuggling major challenges facing Asian region: Antony

NEW DELHI - Defence Minister A. K Anthony on Wednesday said the prominent challenges facing Asian region include terrorism, nuclear proliferation, piracy and smuggling of arms.
Inaugurating the 13th edition of Asian Security Council in New Delhi, Antony warned that several nations in the region have become seething cauldrons of violence and unrest. and added that an efficient security mechanism is needed to combat these problems,
“India has always been at the front of resolution of issues through peaceful means and mutual dialogue between nations. Organisations such as East Asia Summit and SAARC can play a pivotal in developing peace and harmony among Asian nations,” said Antony
“India’s location on the Asian map gives it a central and strategic importance,” he added, reminding that India, China and Japan have historical and cultural linkages.
The Defence Minister further said security related challenges require a united approach from the entire region. (ANI)
