FATEHABAD - Right to Information (RTI) activist Mahabir Singh had to pay a heavy price for exposing a pension scam in Haryana’s Fatehabad District, as his daughter-in-law was allegedly crushed under the car of village head.

According to reports, Singh’s daughter-in-law was allegedly crushed under the car of village head Dharamvir Malik on Friday.

Singh along with his friends had filed RTI to expose the district wide misappropriation of funds carried out by the village head Dharamvir Malik.

Singh and others had first complained to the district officers, but after receiving no response they approached the court and filed a case against Malik.

Malik and his associates retaliated by beating up Mahabir Singh and running over their vehicle on his 25 year old daughter-in-law naming Sonu, who later died in the hospital.

“Pension fraud was going on in the village to which a list was demanded, which didn’t go down well with Malik. In retaliation, in the evening around 6:30 p.m., Malik brought his car, got hold of our daughter-in-law’s neck,” said Mahinder Singh, elder brother of Mahabir Singh.

“She was then kicked and her head was hit by a rod. Then Jagdish (alias Mahabir) came and both daughter-in-law and he were dragged by the car. There were five to six people along with Dharamvir Malik,” he added.

The locals here are scared after the incident and demanding the immediate arrest of Malik and his associates involved in the murder.

“We villagers demand Malik and his associates to be arrested at the earliest as the people, who have filed the RTI (Right to Information) are in grave danger till they remain un-nabbed,” said Yashpal, a local.

According to latest sources, the villagers have come onto the streets with batons in a strong protest of killing.

“A case of murder has been filed against Malik,” said SHO Subhash Saharan. (ANI)
