Maken grants Rs.5crore to Usha Athletics School for development of synthetic turf

KOZHIKODE - Union Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs and Sports, Ajay Maken on Sunday announced assistance worth Rs. five crores to the P.T. Usha-run Usha Athletics School, for development of synthetic turf at Kozhikode, Kerala.

Addressing media persons at a function organized at the school premises, Maken said that it was his first visit outside New Delhi as the Sports Minister, and it was indeed a matter of great pleasure that the Government was able to do something for an institution run by professional sportsperson like P.T. Usha.

The sporting legend, who was present on the occasion, said that the synthetic turf would help the athletes training at her school immensely, as dry tracks and turf were very difficult to find and maintain in Kerala.

Kozhikode MP, M.K. Raghavan, was also present on the occasion.

Once completed, this synthetic turf would be only third in the state and first of its kind in the region.

Maken said that it would be his endeavor to ensure that sportsperson in the state as also the entire country did not face any infrastructural impediments in their training and the Government would do everything to provide them with ample support. (ANI)
