Assange’s mother writes to Rudd demanding Wikileaks’ founder’s protection

CANBERRA - Wikileaks founder Julian Assange’s mother has reportedly written a letter to Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd demanding the government to take necessary steps to stop her son from being extradited to Sweden or prosecuted in the US.

Christine Assange had hand-delivered an eight-page handwritten letter to Rudd’s Brisbane electorate office, and also read it out to journalists, news.com.au reports.

She urged Rudd to make sure that Sweden halts the extradition proceedings, which are currently being held in London, against her son over sexual assault charges.

Christine further asked the Foreign Minister to tell the US government to stop inciting violence against Assange and to prosecute those who are threatening him.

Although she praised Rudd for orally supporting her son, Christine insisted that he has failed to put his words into action.

“Julian did not even get the laptop you had publicly promised him which he needed to prepare for his case while he was in Wandsworth Prison. As far as I am aware you have made no diplomatic protest to Sweden for their abuse of my son’s legal and human rights, nor have you protested to the US for their incitements to kidnap and murder,” the letter said.

The mother of the Australian-born journalist also demanded Rudd’s resignation if he fails to protect her son from being victimised by Sweden and the US. (ANI)
