Power and money is not every thing: Sonia Gandhi

NEW DELHI - In the wake of a series of scams hitting the government, Congress President Sonia Gandhi asserting that mere money and power is not every thing in one’s life, on Tuesday said the political leaders in particular, ought to be a sort of role model for the younger generation.
“We have forgotten and drifted apart from the principles of the Independence struggle and of our ancestors. Everybody should think that what kind of example we are setting before our new generation. Power and money is not everything,” said Gandhi, while addressing a function to mark the release of a special commemorative stamp and First Day Cover brought out in the honour of freedom fighter Chaudhary Ranbir Singh on the occasion of his first death anniversary.
“And the happiness that we derive from these is also not everything. That happiness also has a limit and it can also be used up to a certain limit only,” she added.he Congress President further said that all Indians should stand firm and fight against the terrorism, communalism and casteism.
“Today, when our society is being destroyed by the poison of terrorism, communalism and casteism, we should stand and protest against them. We should work towards the aim of providing good education and discover new avenues for the employment,” said Gandhi.
“We should leave our personal benefits and should work towards the betterment and development of poor people,” she added.
Late Chaudhary Ranbir Singh was the former Chief Minister of Haryana.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the son of late Chaudhary Ranbir Singh, was also present on the occasion along with Union Communications and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal and Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Sachin Pilot. (ANI)
