NEW DELHI - Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani on Tuesday hit out at the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre for its perceived inaction on the burning issues of black money and corruption.

Highlighting the losses incurred by the state exchequer due to the black money, Advani, along with the other senior BJP leaders, urged the government to take immediate measures to reclaim the money from banks based abroad.

Expressing concern on the issue, Advani asserted that the money stored in foreign banks was also being used in funding extremist activities.

“The black money involved in corruption is also stashed away in foreign banks. Even the money used for terrorism is sent through these foreign banks, or is at least channeled through them. As far as I can recall, former national security advisor M.K. Narayanan, had also expressed concern at the fact that some of the black money stored in banks based out of India are used to fund extremist activities,” he said.

Union Law and Justice Minister Veerappa Moily had on Saturday said that the Congress-led UPA Government is taking all measures to reclaim black money stashed away in banks abroad.

According to the data provided by the Swiss bank, India has more black money than rest of the world combined.

The UK has 390 billion dollars in black money, Russia has 470 billion dollars and India tops the list with almost 1500 billion dollars.

The BJP veteran also termed the recent stalling of the Parliament for almost the entire Winter Session by opposition factions over the issue of corruption an ‘unfortunate’ event.

“I feel, in my 40-year experience in the Indian Parliament, I have never seen a situation where a parliamentary session has been stalled for an entire session over an issue. No work was conducted in this session. It is unprecedented and unfortunate,” said Advani.

The Winter Session of Parliament, which began on November 9, witnessed repeated adjournments over the opposition’s insistence for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the 2G scam, even after A. Raja resigned as Communications and IT Minister. (ANI)
