MUSCAT - Three Asian expatriates have been sentenced to 15 years in jail each for forcing women, recruited as housemaids, into prostitution in Oman.
According to Oman’s Public Prosecution Department, the Muscat Criminal Court also fined the three accused 50,000 Omani riyals and ordered them to pay 1,000 riyals to each of their victim.
The Public Prosecution department said that the three accused had recruited women from their countries on promises of employment as housemaids.
However, the women were forced into prostitution and locked up in two furnished apartments in Muscat.
The women told investigators that they were locked in rooms and threatened of torture if they did not co-operate, Gulf News reported.
The three men will be deported to their home country after serving the sentence. (ANI)
