DHARAMSALA - Himachal Pradesh Police raided the residence of Gompo Tsering, the personal secretary of Tibetan leader Karmapa Lama here on Saturday.
After the raid, sleuths sealed a room of the monastery.
A couple of days ago, police had raided the monastery of the Karmapa Lama in the town, and recovered a huge sum of foreign currency of at least 25 countries, estimated as being worth 60 million rupees during the operation.
A three-member police team grilled the Karmapa Lama over the source of the funds.
Rabjaychojan also known as Shakti Lama, a close aide of the Karmapa Lama, has also been sent to police custody till February 5.
Meanwhile, Karma Chugyalpa, the Deputy General Secretary of the Karmapa Lama’s monastery, requests the press to allow them to concentrate on the investigation, and said all queries would be answered in due course.
“We have a rich history of public service made possible through financial dealings that are entirely transparent. We will certainly answer all the questions that press and public have, but for now we respectfully request you to allow us to concentrate on complying fully with the investigation that is underway. We respectfully request you to accede to our request,” said Chugyalpa.
The Karmapa Lama lives in exile along with the Dalai Lama in Dharamala, the centre of the self-proclaimed Tibetan government-in-exile.
Karmapa Lama is the spiritual head of the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and is the third most important leader in Tibetan hierarchy after the Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama.
He is widely tipped by many to lead the Tibetan movement in exile after the Dalai Lama. (ANI)
