Pak lodges written protest with Afghanistan on ‘cross-border arms supply’ issue

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan has lodged a written protest with Afghanistan on the arms-smuggling issue, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said.
Speaking to media persons outside the Parliament House on Tuesday, Malik said an attempt to transport a large quantity of illegal arms from Naushero Feroze to Karachi was foiled by Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies.
A number of suicide vests, rocket launchers, hand grenades and latest weapons were seized, he said, adding that arms were being brought to Pakistan from the neighbouring country of Afghanistan.
The Interior Minister said a written protest has been lodged with Afghanistan on the issue. “Terrorism can’t be contained in Pakistan unless arms supply from Afghanistan ends,” SAMAA TV quoted Malik, as saying.
He also denied that any operation was being conducted in Afghanistan, adding that no such plan was under consideration.
Talking about the law and order situation in Karachi, Malik said 25 suspected terrorists were apprehended from Karachi this month.
Responding to a question, he ruled out a military operation in the Pakistani metropolis, terming the demands for army operation in Karachi and Punjab as political statements, and urging the media to ignore those statements.
On Balochistan, Malik said the situation had improved in the province after reduction in foreign intervention there. (ANI)
