AUCKLAND - South Auckland Police have identified the body of the woman who was burnt to death on a Waikato roadside as being an Indian. Her name, they said, was Ranjeeta Sharma.
An international search has been launched for her husband, who has reportedly fled the country with the couple’s four-year-old son.
The couple are both Fiji nationals and her husband is believed to have fled to Fiji with the help of Sharma’s car, which was recovered at Auckland Airport.
Ranjeeta Sharma’s body was spotted burning by the side of Hangapipi Road, southwest of Huntly, about 10 p.m. on Thursday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Nigel Keall of the Waikato CIB said the focus was now on finding her husband, whom police were yet to name.
He said Ranjeeta’s family were in shock, but have been very helpful with the inquiry. (ANI)
