LONDON - A hotel in Greece where rooms can cost as little as 25 pounds a night has been voted the best in the world by its guests.

The Aegean Sky Hotel in Malia, Crete - which got a mark of 4.95 out of five - beat more expensive and prestigious places reviewed on a holiday website to get the top overall ranking, reports the Daily Express.

It topped a list of 20 compiled by TravelRepublic. co.uk from 100,000 hotels and other accommodation.

Villa Cortes Hotel in Tenerife came second with 4.85 and Prague’s Savic Hotel was third with 4.84.

Only travellers who had booked a room and completed their stay within the past year were allowed to rank a hotel - and only those hotels with 25 or more rankings in 2010 were allowed on to the list.We received more than 70,000 new reviews this year. And we are delighted that this time a newcomer takes the top spot - the Aegean Sky. Congratulations to the team there,” said Paul Furner, managing director for TravelRepublic.

“With more than 100,000 hotels on the site, even securing a place in the top 20 is an impressive achievement,” he added. (ANI)
