LONDON - US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords has been successfully transferred from a hospital in Tucson, Arizona to a rehabilitation centre in Texas.
Giffords, 40, who had been shot in the head at a shooting at a constituency meeting in which six people died, was transferred to the Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation Hospital in Texas, the BBC reported.
She had smiled and shed tears on hearing applause from well-wishers as she was driven from the Tucson hospital to the air base from where she was flown to Texas.
At a news conference later at Memorial Hermann, where she will undergo extensive rehabilitation, doctors described her condition as “spectacular”, with “great” potential for recovery.
The doctors said she had moved limbs on her left side, showed good muscle tone, and that she was aware of her surroundings and was interacting non-verbally with doctors and family members.
But despite her steady progress, doctors say Giffords still has a long road to recovery and are not sure what disability, if any, she will have. (ANI)
