NEW DELHI - Vice President Mohammad. Hamid Ansari on Wednesday released a book entitled “The Indian Parliament: A Democracy at Work” written by B.L.Shankar and Professor Valerian Rodrigues.
Addressing on the occasion, Vice President Ansari said that the book is the central edifice of the Indian democracy.
Congratulating the authors, he said that there was a need for such a valuable book on the Indian Parliament and hoped that this study will become a trendsetter for the people.
The book delves into the lived experience of the Indian Parliament by focusing on three distinct phases - the 1950s, the 1970s and the 1990s.
It argues against the widely held notion of its ongoing decline, and demonstrate how it has repeatedly, and successfully, responded to India’s changing needs in six decades of existence.
B.L. Shankar is a former Member of the Lok Sabha and Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council.
Valerian Rodrigues is Professor and Chairperson at the Centre for Political Studies in the School of Social Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). (ANI)
