Tunnel worker trapped in Udaipur, rescue operations on

UDAIPUR - Rescue operations are on in full swing to save a pump operator trapped in a 90-metre-deep tunnel for the last five days in Rajasthan’s Udaipur city.

According to sources, the condition of Narayan, a pump operator is stable.

Hemant Gera, the District Collector of Udaipur, said rescue works are on and Narayan would be rescued soon.

“As per the company’s senior officials, there are still four metres of debris and rocks in the tunnel. So, tomorrow morning, they will be able to cover two-three metres of rock, and then they will remove debris in another 12-14 hours,” said Gera.

Narayan was trapped 90 metre below the surface after a portion of the 1,300 metre tunnel near Devas in Udaipur, collapsed on Thursday afternoon.

The tunnel is being constructed for an irrigation project to supply water to Udaipur city from Devas village, nearly 30 kilometres away from the city. (ANI)
