Tribals showcase traditional handicrafts in Kochi

KOCHI - Tribals of Kerala have recently showcased their traditional handicrafts and handlooms at a weeklong exhibition in Kochi.
Scores of people visited the exhibition and the manufacturers reaped good profits by selling their products.
“It is a great place to showcase our products. Apart from that, we can sell and explain directly to the customers about our products. On the economy part also, we get ready cash compared to the shops where it goes on a credit basis, or sometimes we have to run around for the payment,” said Jaya Kumari, a seller.
Jose Thachil, a visitor, said the medicines, herbal products and traditional healing methods of the tribals were very beneficial and effective.
“This is an wonderful thing to spread the culture and tradition of the Girivargas (the tribal community) and it is the good thing that all their knowledge about this medicine and also human life. We will be profiting very much from their original culture,” said Thachil.
The weapons used by the tribals, their household equipments, clothes, handicraft items, ornaments and dresses were the main attraction of the exhibition. (ANI)
