BEIJING - About 2.2 million Chinese are facing a drought-like situation, the country’s drought relief authorities have claimed.
The Xinhua news agency quoted Chen Lei, Deputy Director of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, as saying that provinces like Henan, Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui and Shaanxi have experienced a 20-90 percent drop in rainfall over the last four months of the season.
Drought affect wheat producing areas like Shandong and Henan provinces in November last year.
Chan also said the lack of rain has lowered water levels of the Yellow, Huaihe and Haihe rivers, and urged the government to deal with the situation quickly. (ANI)
