Security forces gun down a Maoist in West Midnapore encounter

WEST MIDNAPORE - Security forces gunned down a Maoist and injured another during an encounter at Kankardara village in Lalgarh region of West Bengal’s West Midnapore District on Tuesday.
West Midnapore Additional Superintendent of Police Sukesh Kumar Jain told reporters that it was a joint operation conducted with the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and added a cache of arms, ammunition and allied material has been recovered from the Maoists
“Today we have recovered .315 single barrel gun, ammunition, empty cartridges, some detonators and directional land mines. Intelligence sources informed about the presence of a Maoist group in the village on Monday,” said Jain.
“Subsequently, the security personnel started search and combing operation that lasted till the early morning hours when the encounter took place,” he added.
The injured Maoist was later rushed to the nearest hospital.
Meanwhile, the security forces have detained a couple of villagers for interrogation. (ANI)
