KOCHI - A documentary film- “DAMs - The lethal water bombs,” based on the Mullaperiyar Dam, which is posing a grave threat to thousands of lives, was released here on Monday.
Directed by Sohan Roy under the Biz TV Network banner, the documentary was officially released by former Supreme Court judge, Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer.
“The film is themed on the background of the Mullaperiyar Dam and an eye opener to many for delaying the decision on construction of a new dam and the work is also a warning to those who turn a blind eye to the reality of a possible disaster,” said Sohan Roy.
“The documentary highlights the need for a secured future for those people who spend sleepless nights owing to the uncertain situation of the dam, he added.
Explaining that the Banqiao Dam in China had collapsed following torrential rains in 1975,oy said the story of his movie, ‘DAM 999′, is based on the possibility of a similar disaster that can happen in Kerala.
The capacity of the Mullaperiyar Dam is about 443.23 million cubic metre, he said.
Stating that 85 per cent of all large dams across the world would have passed their projected life span by 2020, Roy said the number of hazardous dams was increasing at an alarming rate.
DAM 999, which will be released worldwide in May, intends to present before the audience the real intensity of a possible dam disaster at Mullaperiyar. (ANI)
