ALLAHABAD - Residents of Allahabad organised a cleaning drive of the River Ganges on Sunday to create awareness of conservation among locals ahead of the month-long Magh Mela river festival.

People collected garbage from the river and the riverbank and burnt them.

“We collected the garbage on the bank of the River Ganges and cleaned the riverbanks, also. We tried to create awareness among people for not using polythene bags along the river, as polythene bags, incense sticks and garlands make the riverbanks filthy,” said Vijay Gupta, the organiser.

“We have burnt the polythene bags and also collected the garlands and incense sticks in a bag. We have requested all the devotees who were taking holy dip in the river, to support our cleaning drive,” he added. By Virendra Pathak (ANI)
