JHARGAM - Farming in West Bengal’s Jhargam district is badly affected by the frequent shutdown called by the Maoists.
Ajit Mahato, a farmer, said due to the shutdown they couldn’t sell their production, every second day the region face shutdown.
“The day Maoists came all the farmers have started bearing the consequences and that has directly affected our farming. Now there is nothing called as farming. Whatever we are able to grow, we cannot sell them, as there is shutdown after every second day,” said Mahato.
Mahato further said farmers sell their assets to grow crops but all in vain due to the shutdown.
“There is shutdown on 29 days of a month. So, people do not want to farm anymore. You can see these fields where we can grow so much but what will as we are facing their continuous atrocities. There are people who sell their jewelleries and properties to grow crops but what is the point if we face loss, as there is there shutdown everyday,” said Mahato.
