GUWAHATI - Scribes carried out a peace rally in Guwahati to mark the beginning of New Year, 2011, in the insurgency affected Assam.

On Friday, the rally was organised by the Journalist Federation of Assam (JFA) focusing on the peaceful resolution of all pending issues in the State.

“On this auspicious occasion, the Journalist Federation of Assam organised this today, a peace procession to shun violence, to prevail peace in and around Assam,” said Rikesh, a member of JFA.

Katindranath Goswami, advisor, JFA, said at the moment the situation is favourable for the government to speak with insurgent groups and come out with a peaceful resolution.

“We think in Assam and also in northeast India, the situation is now favourable for negotiated settlement of the long standing problems. We hope that the government will come forward and the terrorists will also come forward with a roadmap towards progress and to establish peace in near future,” said Goswami. By Peter Alex Todd (ANI)
