MUMBAI - Mumbai Police have beefed up security measures to ensure safe New Year celebrations, as intelligence reports have suggested that militants might disrupt the festivities in the city.

Police personnel have been deployed at vantage points and security has been tightened near Hotel Taj.

“The way Mumbai Police is handling things is really good and we should support them. And they are trying to give their best to secure the people of Mumbai,” said Sayeed Nadeem, a resident.

Traffic police personnel are conducting tests on drivers to ascertain if they are under influence of alcohol.

“Very good, it should be going on for the rest of the…very good thing they are doing. I hope everyone learns from this. And I don’t think anybody will have any problems. It looks very good. I have come from the eastern suburb and I have been checked three to four times. And hopefully they do a very good job,” said Varun, another resident. (ANI)
