3 central Delhi Metro stations to close early on New Year’s eve

NEW DELHI - Three stations in central Delhi will be closed from 9 p.m. on New Year’s eve Friday due to security restrictions, the Delhi Metro said here Wednesday.

A Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) press release said the sale of tickets at Rajiv Chowk, Barakhamba Road and Mandi House stations will be stopped from 8.45 p.m. and the entry gates will be closed at 9 p.m. “in view of security restrictions in the area”.

Traffic movement is usually barred in Connaught Place and neighbouring areas Dec 31 as the area comes under a heavy security blanket.

While the stations will be closed, interchange facility between Line-2 (HUDA City Centre-Jahangirpuri) and Line-3 (Dwarka Sec-21 - Noida Sec-32) will remain operational at Rajiv Chowk station as per normal schedule.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said that while services will continue normally at other stations, no tokens will be sold for the three stations at the other Metro stations at progressive timings - Mundka (7.25 p.m.), HUDA City Centre (7.30 p.m.), Dwarka Sector 21 (7.40 p.m.), Rithala (7.50 p.m.), Sarita Vihar (7.50 p.m.), Jahangirpuri (8.00 p.m.), Noida City Centre (8.05 p.m.) Dilshad Garden (8.05 p.m.) and Anand Vihar (8.15 p.m.)

“The passengers at all other stations are requested to contact the station staff before purchasing tokens for Rajiv Chowk Metro, Barakhamba Road and Mandi House stations. They can also contact DMRCs helpline at 011-128128, the press release said.
