LONDON - Prince William and Kate Middleton, who are set to tie the knot in April 2011, had to spend this year’s Christmas apart as the Royal Family gathered for celebrations at Sandringham.

While William volunteered to be on call with his search-and-rescue squadron at RAF Valley on Anglesey, Middleton celebrated the day with her family in Berkshire, reports the Daily Star.

“She was very happy and excited about being home for Christmas. Next year will be different so she’s making the most of it,” said an onlooker.

The Prince sat down with seven colleagues and tucked in to a turkey dinner washed down with orange juice.

However, they will not be the only royal couple who missed the celebrations as newly-engaged Zara Phillips and her fiance Mike Tindall spent the day together in Gloucestershire. (ANI)
