Wills, Kate wedding memorabilia up for grabs, but sans couple’s pics on it

LONDON - The official wedding memorabilia of the royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton is up for grabs but without the couple’s faces on it.

The plate, tankard and pillbox are decorated with an entwined “C” and “W” plus doves, white ribbons and hearts in silver, gold and grey, reports the Sun.

The design, which also carries William’s coronet and the wedding date, is the only one approved by the lovebirds.

But experts predict the bone china ware-40 pounds for the 8in plate, 35 pounds for the tankard and 25 pounds for the pillbox-will turn up on eBay for a “fraction” of the price.

“Collectors aren’t interested in anything with no portrait. It’s not about quality and beauty, anyone in their right mind would prefer something with Kate and Wills on,” said a memorabilia specialist.

“I’m sure they’ll shift enough of them but in a couple of years these plates and mugs will be sold on eBay for a fraction of the price.

“People will end up not caring about them because they look pretty dull,” added the specialist.

Ron Smith of Plymouth, who runs commemorabilia.co.uk, said: “It doesn’t matter that these bone china items have been approved by Kate and William, the most popular collectors’ items have faces on.

“The good qualities ones with portraits on are what we want. They’re the ones that will hold their value,” he said.

Buckingham Palace has allowed only a few items to carry the couple’s picture, including biscuit tins and jars-but only sanctioned engagement snaps by Mario Testino. (ANI)
