GUWAHATI - A 2.5 crores gold made ‘Kalash’ placed atop the dome of famous Kamakhya temple in Guwahati as an offering, has grasped the attention of the devotees.

“I have come before and earlier there was no such golden ‘Kalash’, it’s looking very beautiful and is very attractive. It is nice too see that someone’s wish has been fulfilled and that is why the ‘Kalash’ has been placed. It has grasped the attention of the people,” said Sonam, a devotee on Saturday.

The temple authorities are now worried about such an expensive offering out in open.

“The temple receives offerings from thousands and millions of devotees, there are many of valuables kept in the temple. And therefore there is need for strict security. We have put Close circuit television (CCTV) cameras, but it is not enough as we do have arms for security,” said Pashupati Sharma, a priest.

“That is why we have requested the government on many occasions to provide better security. We are even ready to give payment for the security,” he added.

The authorities refused to divulge the name of the person who made the offering of the gold ‘Kalash’. By Peter Alex Todd (ANI)
