Muharram Marked By Curfew In Srinagar

SRINAGAR, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- With Muharram being observed all over the world on Friday, in Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the occasion would be observed amidst heightened security with curfew being imposed in parts of the city. The fact that curfew would be active in many parts of Srinagar on Muharram was announced by district officials on Thursday evening while it was also revealed that the restriction would be imposed on seven police stations on Friday in order to avoid any kind of untoward incident.

Despite the imposition of curfew in parts of the city, it would not include the Muharram processions that would be taken out in Srinagar to mark the occasion as its permission has already been granted by the concerned authorities. Meanwhile, officials have revealed that the restrictions would be imposed from 6 in the morning on Friday and it would be effective in the traffic movements in the Old City regions as well. The police stations in Srinagar under whose jurisdiction the curfew would be implemented include Safa Kadal, Kothi Bagh, M R Gunj, Khanyar, Maisuma, Nowhatta, Kralkhud, which covers most parts of the capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

In the meanwhile, a traffic control spokesperson has told reporters that in the wake of the curfew that would be imposed in the city on Muharram, there would not be any traffic movement from Jehangir Chowk to Dalgate bridge through the Maulana Azad road. At the same time, the spokesperson of the traffic control said that would be no traffic movement in parts of the old city as well till the time the curfew is effective.
