TTP planning terror attacks on Muharram processions through IEDs

LAHORE - The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is reportedly planning to launch terrorist attacks by changing motorcycles into improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on Muharram-related processions and Majalis, especially in Lahore.

Sources said that the Punjab Chief Minister’s Secretariat had on December 6, sent a special report of intelligence agencies to all district police officers in the province, regarding the new modus operandi of the TTP.

Sources said the letter contained logos of most immediate and very important and was also sent to the provincial home secretary and inspector general police.

According to The News, terrorists affiliated with the Qari Hussain Mehsud group are purchasing motorcycles to use them as Improvised Explosive Devices.

The intelligence agencies have suggested that security personnel, especially the traffic police, should be briefed to take preemptive measures to thwart terrorist plans.

Qari is a cousin of former Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud and running training camps for suicide bombers, including young teenagers, in Spinkai, South Waziristan, intelligence agencies here said. (ANI)
