MINNEAPOLIS (GaeaTimes.com)- With the heavy blizzard that parts of the U.S. state of Minnesota has been experiencing for the past few days, many public schools in the various districts have been shut owing to the unfavorable weather conditions. Over the weekend, the city of Minneapolis encountered heavy snowfall which dumped as much as 17 inches of snow on the city and the city dwellers are now bearing the brunt of the adverse weather.

On Monday, officials of the Minneapolis Public Schools informed parents that the schools would be closed for the day given the fact that the huge pile of snow on the streets has turned traveling into a major task for the residents of the city. With the situation in Minneapolis hardly showing any signs of improvement, the district officials were left with no other option but to cancel the public schools even today in order to ensure that the children do not have to go through a harrowing time.

With the public schools in the Minneapolis remaining shut, the scenario in the city of St. Paul is also similar due to the heavy rainfall in the area. The announcement that the schools in St. Paul would be closed owing to the adverse weather conditions was announced late on Sunday by district spokesperson Howie Padilla who added that the decision to shut the schools was taken as speedy and regular bus service could not be guaranteed. Moreover, with the extreme chilly weather condition prevailing in the city, authorities concluded it was best to keep the public schools closed. However, the news has surely left the school kids rather excited with the impromptu holidays coming their way.
