Oz women ’spend more on themselves during Christmas’

MELBOURNE - A new research has revealed that Australian women spend more on themselves during Christmas than on presents for partners, family and friends.

“Research shows that giving gifts makes people feel happy, probably even happier than when they are on the receiving end,” the Daily Telegraph quoted consumer psychologist Adam Ferrier, as saying.

“The same applies to Christmas shopping - buying for others generally results in an unexpectedly good mood. It’s this elevated mood that often increases impulsive shopping behaviour.

“Women in particular become more hedonistic and will end up spending more money than they planned to - for others and for themselves,” said Ferrier.

The research also stressed that women are under pressure to look great during the silly season so many get easily distracted during Yuletide shopping trips by the sparkly dress or pair of skyscraper heels that would impress others.

“At Christmas time, there are loads of opportunities to socialise and party. That means there are lots of reasons - or excuses - for women to buy new clothes and accessories. It is no surprise many women spend more on themselves than others at Christmas time,” said Ferrier. (ANI)
