SRINAGAR - The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front R (JKLF-R), the separatist political party of Jammu and Kashmir, carried out a hunger strike on the eve of ‘International Human Rights Day’ here on Friday to protest human rights violations in the State.
JKLF-R vice-chairman Javaid Ahmad Mir said the hunger strike was to demand the release of political prisoners, and in remembrance of the innocent people killed in Kashmir.
“This hunger strike is to gain attention of the international human rights organizations across the world. For the past two years, between 2008 and 2010, the state has seen many young martyrs and the youth being imprisoned. It is for them that we are carrying out this protest,” said Mir.
Protestors carried placards and banners reading ‘Stop human violations’ and ‘Solidarity with Political Prisoners’, among others. The supporters were also shouting anti-India and Pro-Freedom Slogans.
Police, who was deployed beforehand to check the demonstration, arrested protestors and foiled the strike. By Fayaz Ahmad (ANI)
