Maoists kill villager for refusing to join their ranks in Orissa

KORAPUT - Suspected Maoists brutally killed a man after he refused to join their ranks in Odiyapentha village in Orissa’s Koraput District.
According to witnesses, 35-year-old Sambaru Huika was dragged out of his office at night, and shot dead a few feet from his residence.
“At around 11 p.m. they came in a group and told us to go inside our houses. They then called him and said that they wanted to speak to Sambaru. When he went out with them, they brutally killed him,” said Kabika Huika, brother of the deceased.
Police have registered a case and have begun their investigations.
“Narayanpatnam Police Station has registered a case on the written report filed by his, deceased’s wife. Case is now under investigation,” said A. K. Rout, a police inspector.
After the incident, security forces have intensified patrolling in the area to nab the culprits.
Villagers of the district have complained that the Maoists often try to recruit them and threaten them with dire consequences if they refuse. By Sarada Lahangir(ANI)
