NEW YORK - Trying unusual cuisines isn’t really a bad idea for those who like to tickle their taste buds with different foods.

A California cooking teacher, who has been experimenting with marijuana edibles, has penned a book of savoury cannabis dishes.

Sandy Moriarity’s unusual tome is filled with fare that incorporates marijuana into butters, stuffings, roasts and sauces, and suggestions like using cannabis flour to achieve the slightlyintoxicating flavour of her fried chicken, reports The New York Daily News.

But don’t try her savoury poultry dishes at home - unless you happen to live in a state where cannabis ingestion is legal.

Moriarity got her prescription for medical marijuana from her doctor about 15 years ago to alleviate severe headaches, and has been taking it ever since.

Since smoking is not the best way to get the drug’s effects, she began learning to cook with marijuana and then shared her skills with others.

Asked by several sick friends to cook cannabis-infused dishes, Moriarity eventually set about writing a cookbook to guide those looking to make pot cuisine.

‘Aunt Sandy’s Medical Marijuana Cookbook’ is not a collection of 70s-style pot brownies, but savoury recipes instead.

Most of the dishes contain a ‘magic ingredient’ Cannabutter.

Moriarity said she has the component’s preparation down to a science, including being able to infuse the butter so that it has various levels of potency.

She has perfected fried chicken, too.

“I use regular flour with cannabis flour and you get such a great crunch,” she said.

The mother of three grown daughters said another of her favorite dishes is cannabis-marinated shrimp, in which she claims the secret ingredient can barely be detected.

Moriarity also teaches her readers how to make marijuana-infused spaghetti sauce and various fish specialties.

“It’s great. You can get a buzz after eating a beautiful fillet of sole dinner,” she said.

Some of her favourites include scalloped potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and Dizzy Dizzy Bird Turkey with stuffing.

Moriarity teaches at Oakland’s Oaksterdam University, which has trained more than 12,000 students from around the country to prepare for jobs in the thriving marijuana industry. (ANI)
