Praja Rajyam Party legislators protest baton charge on social activists in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD - Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) legislators on Monday demonstrated against the police baton-charge on activists of a non-profit institution called Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS), who had come out in support of lower caste people.
The protesters demonstrated on the sidelines of an event where Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy paid homage to the Father of Indian Constitution, Bhim Rao Ambedkar, on his 54th death anniversary in Hyderabad.
Interacting with mediapersons, actor and PRP chief K. Chiranjeevi, said his party’s legislators condemned the baton-charge.
On Saturday, the MRPS activists were conducting a peaceful march to the State assembly as part of their agitation to pressurize the government over the issue of categorization of members of the Scheduled Castes.
Some of the activists had marched into the state assembly, after which the police stepped in and baton-charged them. By Ranjit Jadhav (ANI)
