Trade union activists burn effigy of Chief Minister Buddhadeb

KOLKATA - The members of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) burnt effigy of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and demanded the reopening of closed industries and proper implementation of government jobs.

Hundreds of INTUC activists staged protests here on Thursday and also brunt the effigy TATA group chairman Ratan Tata.

Leaders of the outfit also demanded action against millions of provident fund defaulters.

” We demand certain things including opening of the closed and sick industries, proper implementation of the government projects in the State and the provident fund amount which are defaulted for a long time,” said Pradip Bhattacharya, President INTUC.

Meanwhile, activists of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) also carried out a demonstration against the State police and ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist).

TMC activists alleged the wrongful killing of its party workers by police personnel on December 1 in Burdwan district.

“In Raina of Burdwan, Police and members of Communist Party of India (Marxist) attacked the Trinamool Congress activists. The CPI-M, activists alleged false charges on us and wanted us to be arrested. When Raina’s local people agitated towards them, police fired at them in which three of our activists were shot died and five people are still battling for life,” said Swarna Kamal Saha, TMC leader.
