Nearly 60pc of Aussies don’t know who’s living next door!

MELBOURNE - A new study has revealed that nearly 60 per cent of Australians do not know their neighbours at all.
The survey, undertaken by That’s Life magazine, also found that 82 percent of Australian adults believe their parents were better neighbours than they are.
Of the 2,100 Australians surveyed, 59 percent said they never speak with their neighbours and 38 percent do not know their neighbours at all.
“The results of our neighbourhood survey were truly surprising,” the Courier Mail quoted Linda Smith, editor of the magazine, as saying.
“Most of our readers remember very clearly the neighbours they grew up with. In our parents’ era, neighbouring families would often share meals, mind children, and even provide a cup of sugar or flour, she added.
“But this survey has shown that the picture of the average Australian community has really changed since those times. We are keeping a lot more to ourselves now,” said Smith.
However, 73 percent said they would like to get to know their neighbours better.
“These results made us look for a way to motivate Australians to get to know their neighbours in a social setting,” said Smith.
She added the survey results prompted her magazine to look for a way to motivate Australians to get to know their neighbours. (ANI)
