Elders Day observed in Delhi

NEW DELHI - Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said that it is in the interest of society to learn from the vast experience of senior citizens.

Speaking during the Elders’ Day Celebration organized by Age Care India here, She said her government is committed to make Delhi a role model in Old Age Care.

“Delhi is striving to become a model city where aged persons are given due care and respect and they are treated as true guides, friends and philosophers. The aged persons are facing more challenges in today’s society as number of joint families is becoming less and less,” she added

“The senior citizens deserve security, care and health services. They also need to have facilities of entertainment,” she said ikshit further said that her government has given instructions to its hospitals to provide all possible treatments to aged persons.

“They are not to stand in queue and wait for their term. The city government is keen to provide them full social security. It is mulling to improve management of its Old Age Homes so that senior citizens putting up there may not face any difficulty,” she adding.

Emphasing that their contribution is valuable and unforgettable, Dikshit said: ” We can help them in making their lives comfortable though we are not in a position to repay their debt.

Dikshit also felicitated those senior citizens who have crossed 80 years of age. By Rajesh Gaur (ANI)
