NEW DELHI - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday raided eleven locations, including the homes and offices of Lalit Bhanot and VK Verma - top aides of Commonwealth Games Chairman, Suresh Kalmadi.

The Organising Committee (OC) headquarters was also raided in connection with the multi-crore scam of the mega sporting event.

Cases have been registered against Bhanot and Verma for cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy.

The CBI had earlier registered two cases in their bid to seek all documents, which could lead to the OC’s exposure in dealing with payments made to different agencies involved in the Games.

Verma has already been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with irregularities in the Queen’s Baton Relay in the UK.

The raids come even as the CBI is set to oppose the bail plea of two other aides of Kalmadi, TS Darbari and Sanjay Mohindroo.

Earlier, the CBI had filed two separate cases involving UK-based A M Films and the former officials of CWG Organising Committee on charges of forgery and cheating in organising QBR.

The first case names London-based AM Car and Van Services and its owner besides Darbari, Mahendroo, and Raj Singh, a Director-level officer in the OC.

They have been slapped with charges under Sections 468 (forgery of court records and public documents), 471 (using forged documents as genuine), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act. (ANI)
