Census 2011 and National Population Register (NPR) almost complete: Chidambaram

NEW DELHI - Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday said that data collection for house listing and housing census and for the National Population Register (NPR) was completed in all states and Union Territories except in a few villages of Chhattisgarh and West Bengal.

Presenting his November report, he said counting machines and scanners have been installed, tested and made operational in all storage-cum-scanning centres.

He added that counting of NPR Schedules is over in all the States except in West Bengal, Bihar and Tamil Nadu.

He said scanning of NPR has been completed in the States of Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Tripura, Delhi, Uttrakhand, Goa and Kerala and 35 percent of the scanning work has been completed in the remaining states.

Data collection and printing of Local Register of Usual Residents (LRUR) for creation of NPR in the coastal villages has been completed in all project States/UTs, namely, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Goa, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, West Bengal and Maharashtra, Chidambaram said.

For production and personalization of identity (smart) cards in the coastal NPR, work orders for procurement of personalization machines and for pre-printing of cards have been issued, he added.

He informed that the field survey for the Annual Health Survey is in progress in 272 districts in nine States. (ANI)
