Teacher who told female student she “had nice tits” allowed to teach again

WELLINGTON - A Kiwi male teacher who made ‘repeated sexualised comments’ to female students would be able to teach again.

The New Zealand Teachers’ Disciplinary Tribunal launched an investigation into the unnamed teacher on March 24.

The teacher, who had already resigned from his school, admitted a series of comments to female Year 11 students.

It included telling one to: “Bend over and I’ll take a photo of your tits”.

He also told a female student she “had nice tits”, “had a nice bum”, asked one whether or not she was a virgin and told her that her older sister was “hot”.

He also said to girls in a class when they said they were staying in bed for the weekend, “I may join you”.

However, he told the tribunal that he had been misunderstood as he meant that he too planned to stay in bed all weekend, reports Stuff.co.nz.

The tribunal censured the teacher over his “serious misconduct’, but has not ordered his permanent deregistration.

Instead, it has suspended his practising certificate until he undertakes approved courses in “appropriate behaviour management” and then provides a “reflective statement” showing what he had learnt. (ANI)
