ISLAMABAD - Two NATO helicopters fired into the North Waziristan tribal area in northwest Pakistan near the Afghan border on Friday, and injured three people, according to local sources.
Witnesses told Xinhua that the two NATO helicopters, which were hovering for ten minutes, fired at Lawra Mandi village of Datta Khel area in North Waziristan.
Local administration confirmed the attack, saying that the three injured had been shifted to a hospital in Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan.
This is not the first time that NATO helicopters fighting in the neighbouring Afghanistan have violated Pakistan’s territory, as some weeks ago, they had fired at suspected militants ‘ hideouts on the Pakistani side, killing three border troops.
The United States has mounted its pressure on Pakistan to wage a new operation in the restive North Waziristan tribal agency, but Pakistan insists on taking its own decision in this regard. (ANI)
