GULMARG - ‘Gondola’ or cable car services have resumed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Gulmarg district following an end to widespread protests and unrest in the Valley.

Gondola ride, which covers an aerial distance of five kilometers, connecting Gulmarg with Kangdoor in the first phase, and with Apharwat, in the second phase is popular among both residents and international tourists.Gondola is very nice and the service is also good. Till yesterday, it was closed. We have managed to take a ride in the Gondola. Tourists should enjoy this ride otherwise the trip to Kashmir is worthless,” said Reshmi Goel, a tourist.

The Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC) has earned 100 million rupees in revenue from Gondola rides till October 2010, said P. N. Singh, the person in-charge of the Gondola cable car service.

Around 400,000 people have taken the Gondola ride this year.

Work on Gulmarg Gondola Project (Phase-I and Phase-II) began in 1987 and the work for supply, erection, installation and commissioning was awarded to a French company called Pomagalski. By Parvaz Butt (ANI)
